Throughout the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its vast deserts, lie traces of ancient settlements and great civilizations that can be dated back to the earliest ages of prehistory. history has recorded many of the achievements of civilization that this blessed land has contributed to the world. this alone does not explain why this region in particular was the place that witnessed the most sublime massage of guidance in human history. The major part of the historical heritage of the kingdom pertains to the holy sites. They are the holy cities of makkah and madina and the areas around them. These holy sites witnessed the emergence of the blessed call the shining of the light of Islam upon the world.
Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, said:" the 1st piece of land created was the land of the Kaaba, all other lands were stretched out from under it." He also said :" The first mountain that was placed on earth was Abu Qubaus". It is believed that other mountains were derived from it.
No city has ever received so much honor as the holy city of Makkah. Almighty God blessed it, and favored it over all other cities. It is the purest and holiest site on earth. The Holy Qur'an gave this city many names: Makkah, Bakkah, Mother of Towns and the City of Sanctuary. Makkah has more than thirty names, all of them express great reverence and glorification. This reflects the high esteem in which Makkah is held. It is narrated that Prophet Muhammad said when the peoples of Prophets were destroyed, those Prophet would come and settle in Makkah, where they together with their followers could worship God until they died. It is said that Noah, Hud, Shaloh and Jethro died in the city of Makkah, " peace and blessings be upon them all.
Makkah has always been the cradle of Islam. It is where Islam emerged and it is the repository of its heritage. Makkah is the basis for the modern culture of Saudi Arabia as a state, a people and home of Islam.
